SUMMARY:FINAL Floating Home Marina Landlord Tenant Subcommittee Meeting - Tigard
DESCRIPTION:One of the MH Coalition facilitators is drafting the marina issues bill language right now.  He is taking his best pass on what he understands floating home tenants and landlords currently agree on and want to submit for (hopeful) voting into law in early 2019. \nThis is our final opportunity to make changes to the intent\, clarify the language\, and provide input on various ways this legislation could affect floating home owners\, etc. \nIf you haven’t come to a Coalition or Subcommittee meeting before and would like to better understand the issues so that you feel confident in making informed commentary during this final Subcommittee meeting\, please plan on attending the Tenant-Only Prep Meeting on October 22nd in St. Johns.  We will review all the proposed law changes and overview what is at stake from a floating home owner perspective. \nTo join our mailing list for up-to-date info and commentary about your rights and this process\, to participate in spreading the word or posting flyers at your marina\, email us at rights@floatinghomeowners.com and let us know your name and in which rental moorage you live.

SUMMARY:Floating Home Marina Landlord Tenant Subcommittee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The next Marina Subcommittee Meeting is set: July 12th in Tigard. \nFrom what I’ve gathered from the facilitators\, the landlords wanted a chance to get together to think through our issues which we presented on May 16th so that they can come to consensus together about how they will respond to what we were asking for on May 16th.  And\, no doubt\, we will hear some pushback at our next meeting.\n\nBy the time we meet again on July 12th\,  landlords will have taken 2 months to get on the same page with one another and consult their attorneys.\n\nWe must represent strongly on July 12th.  Your opinions matter!\n\nPlease come to the meeting and participate in important discussions about:\n\nFees that marinas charge which are prohibited by ORS\nEvictions and the definition of abandoned property (when you are evicted from a marina\, you have 30 days to sell or move your home or else it becomes defined as “abandoned property” which the landlord can take possession of and dispose of.\nFloating home owner access to a mediation and dispute resolution resource\nAnd be prepared to respond to Landlords’ responses to our issues presented on May 16th

SUMMARY:Floating Home Marina Landlord Tenant Subcommittee Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The April 17th MH Coalition marina-focused meeting was a success in that we had so many floating home owners and marina owners in attendance that there was standing room only.  Clearly\, this was an issue that brought people out to learn and share\, and to contribute to creating laws to protect their interest in the floating home communities in Oregon. \nDuring the April 17th meeting\, it became clear that there are a number of floating home owners and marina owners who have some issues to work through via legislation.  A Floating Home Marina Landlord-Tenant Subcommittee will be formed from the MH Coalition and this will be the first meeting of the group.  Our first meeting will explore whether we can forge an agreement\, in principle\, relating to combining the mediation and live-aboard concepts.  The topics specifically include drafting legislation to provide floating home owners with access to a resource and also mediation benefits to help resolve landlord tenant disputes\, as well as discussing the role of liveaboards (tenants who live full-time in a boat\, not a floating home). \nNOTE: Please do bookmark our Events page to make sure you have the most current information about his meeting.  Since this group is brand new\, please expect changes in date\, venue or topics addressed.  If changes occur\, we will update them here.

SUMMARY:MHC Meeting - Focus on Marinas - Tigard
DESCRIPTION:Don’t let the name confuse you – THESE ARE THE PEOPLE who meet monthly to discuss YOUR RIGHTS as a FLOATING HOME OWNER. \nTHIS IS AN IMPORTANT MEETING FOR MARINA RESIDENTS. \nOregon law addresses floating home owner rights similarly to manufactured home park residents (who own their home but lease the park space) in about 95% of the law. \nThe Manufactured Housing Coalition (MHC) has primarily been the group in charge of drafting legislation pertaining to floating home owners in rental marinas since the late 1990s.  Due to a set of similar circumstances between floating home owners who own their homes but rent their slips & manufactured homeowners who own their homes but rent the lot in a manufactured dwelling park\, the MHC (despite the name) consists of manufactured homeowners\, park owners/managers\, park attorneys\, floating homeowners\, and marina owners/managers.  Floating home owner/residents are encouraged to participate and have your voice heard. \nMHC currently meets approximately once a month in Salem or Tigard – marina landlords and tenants are always invited to share issues that are of legislative concerns for them. \nMarina owners regularly attend these meetings and weigh in on important issues for them. The marina landlord voices are well-represented. \nFloating home owners have not participated regularly in this open meeting for years\, hence the recent legislation has not been able to hear their voices. \nKey legislative initiatives are now being discussed at the April 17th meeting that will affect floating home ownership and your rights. Click here for the April 17th Agenda Discussion List. \nWhile it is best to participate in person and conference calls can be difficult to follow when 30 people are talking together in a room\, sometimes you just cannot make it. \nTigard dial-in conference line: (515) 604-9000\, passcode 948800
